A thrilling classical performance, an enthralling electronic album, a DJ set...
A Missing Moon is all of these and more.
Exploring the spaces in between contemporary art music, experimental electronic music and EDM, A Missing Moon is a gripping journey through genre and emotion. Opening with a brand new work by Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti, solo viola is subtly complimented and altered through Lanzilotti's unique ear for sonic adventure and contemplation. This aural introspection fades into a new piece by Connor D'Netto—but the tempo soon increases through thrilling post-minimal virtuosity. An ambient soundscape emerges from Tilman Robinson, at first joined, then questioned by the viola—a dialogue between electronic and analogue that progresses through another brand new work by Ailie Robertson, before the two worlds fully collide in a unique and explosive collaborative work by LÂLKA and Kieran Welch. Finally, the electronic fully takes over, as the live performance merges seamlessly into a set from Kieran's alter-ego DJ Airport, featuring specially commissioned remixes of the preceding works.
Following recording and production through 2019–21, the A Missing Moon album is due out mid-2022. For booking enquiries, head to the contact page, or email kieranwelch [at] gmail.com.

But we need your help!
Funding the creation of adventurous new works is notoriously difficult in Australia. By donating to the project, not only will you be joining as an integral part of this unique artistic product, but you will be directly building a rich and diverse community of adventurous music creators.
The curation of A Missing Moon exemplifies Kieran's values of social equity, creating and supporting community, and exploring the modern possibilities of the viola. Across the five new pieces created for this album, three are from female-identifying composers and producers, and three are from local Australian artists. Furthermore, scores for all commissioned pieces will be made available alongside educational resources, enabling them to be performable by any interested violist—whether they have previous experience with electronics or not.
